There are many reasons why charging ports fail and your phone won’t charge or connect to your computer after this type of damage.
The biggest reason is using your phone while plugged into the charger.
When this happens, the head of the charger (USB Connector) is rigid and not intended to move. When tension is put on the cable, the part inside has nowhere to go. In some severe cases, the board can be damaged due to this type of use while locked in place to charging port.
(Just remember, there is no room for the connector to move around while you are moving around.
This can and does cause the port to physically break from the board.)
If this breaks while plugged in, the shifting of the little connectors can short internally causing unseen damage to the board and other components on the board.
Some of these damages cannot be repaired with out replacement boards.
